Webinars About Marriage
Two years ago, in March of 2005, we lauded some vendors (in this post) in the web conferencing and webcasting industry for moving beyond what we described as "webinars about webinars." At the time, the most popular webinars were about webinars which was and still is appropriate to do for the missionary, educational work associated with the birth of new markets. We were concerned then, however, that online events and webinars weren't really taking hold.
We're happy to report the online event market is exploding and an illustration of this view is the recently produced webinar hosted by Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the popular radio personality heard by millions. (CN exclusive picture above from the webinar.) Sponsored by Citrix Online and their GoToWebinar service, the one-hour webinar was held on February 28th and filled to a 1000 person capacity. The subject of Dr. Laura Schlessinger's a was a discussion (promotion, of course) of her new book "The Proper Care & Feeding of Marriage." (We find the book title to be an odd choice of words, as it sort of equates marriage with the a vet's recommendation for your kid's new pet rabbit, yet maybe that's the point, but we digress.)
Think about it: When 1000 people at home log in to a webinar on a Wednesday evening, not to hear about how to do webinars, not to hear about generating leads through webinars, but to hear about how to nurture their marriages, it's evident that marriage ain't easy webinars have come of age.
We believe that online events like this will become a common fixture in the interactive media landscape, in both the B2B and B2C sectors. New web-based event services and features will continue to crop up. In a report entitled "World Web Event Services Market" Frost & Sullivan writes "In 2006, total revenues in the web event services market reached $140.5 million, forecasting $500.5 million for 2012. As more customers are ready to invest in this type of solutions, the web event services market is expected to show impressive growth rates through out the forecast period."
Webinars about marriage. Go figure.
